Environmental assessment and geotechnical investigations are being undertaken for the project.
Environmental studies will consider environmental legislation, planning and land use, topography, geology and soils, water resources (surface and ground water), climate and air quality, flora and fauna, noise and vibration, landscape and visual amenity, cultural heritage, and waste management. The studies will use a range of assessment techniques including both desktop and or field based analysis. The fact sheets below provide more detail on these investigations.
Geotechnical studies will inform the proposed reference design for the Detailed Business Case. The project comprises the investigation of a new dam site, located at Hells Gates, and three (3) weir sites located downstream of the proposed dam site (referred to as the northern, central and southern weirs). The scope of geotechnical works to be undertaken between August and November 2020, includes the establishment of a workers camp, construction of temporary access tracks and river crossings and works including boreholes, test pits and geophysical survey. The fact sheet below provides further detail on these investigations.
We have developed a number of information sheets to explain the various field studies that may be conducted within the study area.
We will continue to add to this library as the project progresses.
